Should Your Clinic Staff Handle Your Marketing?
Short answer: probably not, and it's not because they're bad at their job. It's because marketing needs a completely different skill set, one they were not actually hired for.
Here's the picture this usually looks like. You own a clinic. Your operations team handles the paperwork, registers patients, collects payments, dispenses meds and somewhere along the way, they also became your social media team. Posting content. Replying to DMs. Managing your Instagram account.
And now you're wondering why enquiries feel slow, your content looks inconsistent, and your team looks tired and burnt-out all the time.
They were hired to run your clinic, not grow it
Think about it this way. Your operations staff are trained to handle patients with care, keep your paperwork in order, and make sure the clinic runs smoothly day to day. That's a real skill and a hard one.
But posting on Instagram consistently? Writing captions that get people to book? Knowing what content brings in enquiries versus what just gets a few likes? That's a completely different skill set-one they were never trained for, and honestly, one they probably didn't sign up for either.
So when marketing gets tacked onto their existing workload, something has to give. Usually it's consistency. Sometimes it's their energy. And often, it's your clinic's growth that got sacrificed.
There's a difference between "posting for you" and "bringing patients in"
This is the part most clinic owners miss. Someone posting content for your clinic is not the same as someone building a system that brings patients through your door.
Posting is just the visible part. Behind a system that works, there's a lot more- knowing what content converts, capturing the person who's interested, following up so they don't just disappear, and turning that interest into an actual booking.
Your ops team can absolutely post a nice photo.
But can they build and run that whole system, on top of everything else they're already doing? Probably not and that's not on them. It's just not what a full patient acquisition system requires.
So what's the solution?
It's not necessarily hiring a full in-house marketing person either- that's a big cost and commitment, and not every clinic needs one full-time. Sometimes the better move is bringing in someone who knows how to build this system, so your ops team can go back to doing what they were hired for, that's running your clinic well.
Your staff deserve to feel good at their jobs, not burnt out trying to execute five different roles at once. And your clinic deserves marketing that's built to bring patients in, not just content that fills the feed.
The Bottom Line:
One thing to try today.
Send this to your clinic manager and see their reaction. If they nod along a little too hard, you know what needs to be done.
