Why Did My Lead Close WhatsApp Without Saying Anything?
Short answer: they're not rejecting your clinic. They're hesitating- and hesitation, left alone, usually turns into silence.
Running ads is really one of the fastest ways to get your clinic seen. Someone scrolls, sees your ad, gets curious, and clicks. That part usually works fine.
But here's the moment that decides everything: what happens right after they click?
Two things usually happen
Sometimes, they WhatsApp you immediately, ready to find out more. Great, that's the outcome everyone hopes for.
But often, something else happens instead. They open WhatsApp, look at it for a second... and then closes it. No message or explanation, just poof gone.
Why would someone do that?
It's not really a mystery once you think about it from their side.
This isn't unique to clinics either, it's the exact same hesitation that happens across almost every online interaction where someone has to take one more step before inquiring. Even in online shopping, where people have already decided they want something, roughly 70% still abandon their cart before completing the purchase, according to research compiled by the Baymard Institute.
If that much hesitation happens when someone's already decided to buy a product, imagine how much more hesitation shows up when someone's deciding whether to message a clinic about their own health.
They might be unsure what to even say. They might be worried it sounds like a silly question. They might just be scrolling on a break and not ready to commit to a conversation yet. None of that means they weren't interested. It just means the moment wasn't quite ready for a full conversation.
So what actually helps here?
The problem was never that your ad failed , it got the click, which is the hard part. The gap is what happens in between clicking and typing a message.
A few simple questions before someone lands fully in WhatsApp can make a real difference. Instead of dropping someone straight into a blank chat where they have to think of what to say first, giving them something small to respond to first, perhaps a quick question, or a simple choice, makes the whole thing feel like less of a commitment. It makes them feel invested and not ambushed, this helps in reducing some friction.
What if they still don't reply?
This is where having a system matters more than having a perfect ad.
If there's a way to reach out to someone even after they've ghosted or became quiet, a gentle follow-up, not a pushy one, you're not leaving that interested person to just disappear. We've actually written before that it is not always just the ad itself, it is a whole patient acquisition system.
The Bottom Line:
Your ad did its job and the click happened. What decides whether that click becomes a patient is everything that happens in the seconds right after and that part is very fixable, once you know it's there.
